29 Apr 2020 Norwegian engineering company Aker Solutions has had its carbon-capture technology approved for use at Norcem's cement plant in Brevik.

The project will start in January 2021 and work will be completed in 2024. The contract has a value of about $57.6 million (NOK 500 million). Aker Solutions’ post-combustion technology will be used to capture and liquefy 400,000 tonnes of CO2 a year at the plant operated by Norcem, which is owned by Germany’s HeidelbergCement, the Aker Solutions has plenty of experience with carbon capture technology as it was part of the world’s first large-scale carbon capture and storage project off the coast of Norway in 1996 and is also currently involved in the concept studies for carbon capture at Norcem’s cement factory in Brevik, Norway.
